Jumeirah Private Island Phuket, or Barama Bay as it was then called, was discovered in 2005 during a visit to Thailand by TGR Group Asia’s Senior Managing Partner, Edward Powis. During initial feasibility studies Edward was introduced to Mr. Dilokpol Sundaravej (Tik), working at the time as country manager for Jones Lang LaSalle. It was a perfect partnership and so the platform was in place to initiate one of the most inspirational projects seen in Thailand property and resort destinations worldwide, a private island off Phuket that offered the potential for privacy and security but also great accessibility, infrastructure and natural beauty. Edward and Tik set about developing a vision and putting together a management team that would have the expertise to develop such a project. The team commissioned some of the world’s top contractors and professionals including; Baker Tilly Thailand, Bovis Lend Lease, Bishop International, Johnson, Stokes and Master, Connell Wagner, WATG, A49 Design, and Hirsch Bedner.

Like all members of the senior management team, Edward intends to live on the island once it is completed.
